This act marks a devastating failure of international protection and a breach of Germany’s previous commitments to halt Uyghur repatriations.

Details of the Deportation Flight
According to an official from the Turkish consulate in Frankfurt, Arafat was forcibly placed on Air China flight CA966. The flight departed from Frankfurt Airport at 2:17 pm local time on July 21st and landed in Beijing at 5:44 am on July 22nd.
The Turkish official reportedly tried to intervene and stop the deportation by contacting the relevant German immigration authorities and providing official Turkish identification documents proving Arafat’s citizenship. Despite this evidence, German authorities later notified the consulate that the deportation had been carried out as planned, returning Arafat to a state that views his ethnic identity as a high-security threat.
A Senseless Destination
The deportation has left Arafat’s family and legal advocates in shock. While the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) discontinued his asylum case (File No. 10825854-479) because he allegedly missed a hearing, his family has consistently maintained that he never received the summons.
The most pressing question remains: Why was he deported to China? Arafat’s family left East Turkistan in 2016 and eventually made their way to Turkiye in 2017 where they eventually gained Turkish citizenship. His immediate family, including his mother, Guzelay Adil, currently resides in Turkiye. Under standard immigration protocols, if a person is to be deported, they are typically returned to their country of citizenship or where they have legal residency. By bypassing Turkiye and sending a documented Turkish citizen of Uyghur descent directly to Beijing, Germany has ignored the explicit humanitarian risks that were clearly documented in Arafat’s case files.
A Dark Pattern of Systemic Failure
This is now the third documented instance of Germany deporting a Uyghur to China, directly contradicting the government’s 2018 pledge to halt such actions due to the ongoing genocide in East Turkistan.
2018: A 22-year-old Uyghur man was deported to Beijing in what was described as an “administrative error.” He has not been heard from since.
November 3, 2025: Rizwangul Bekri, a 56-year-old woman, was deported after her court hearing was abruptly cancelled.
July 21, 2026: Arafat Adil is returned to China despite his Turkish citizenship, and a handwritten plea in his file stating, “I would like to stay in Germany. I have a life here”.
Family in Anguish
From Turkiye, Guzelay Adil had released a desperate video plea through Kashgar Times, begging for her son’s safety. “Please don’t let them deport my son to China,” she cried. Those pleas were ignored.
Arafat Adil’s case highlights a terrifying reality for the Uyghur diaspora: even with citizenship in a third country, the protection of Western law can prove tragically fragile.
